Long cross-country rallies, unlike many other forms of off-road racing, involve a lot of mental training. You need to know how to manage your bike and body and learn to navigate using only a roadbook and compass heading.
We run private training events for competitors preparing for international rallies (as well as those who want a 'taste' of what it's like!), where you will learn from experienced racers all about navigating, and keeping your head (and yourself) in the race.
We use rally roadbooks made by Scott Whitney of Hogwild Racing. These are very accurate and made exactly like Dakar Rally roadbooks.
Our scheduled Rally Schools usually run in April and October near Death Valley in the Mojave Desert of California and Nevada. However, the Schools will not run in 2012 because Charlie has 2 new small children and cannot take the necessary time away from home to prepare and run the Rally Schools. We can offer private training sessions with either Charlie or our other experienced instructors.
Also, Jimmy Lewis will be doing some rally training sessions in the same area this year. We highly recommend Jimmy's rally training. Contact him for more information: lewisj(at)dslextreme.com
Be sure to read this excerpt from the upcoming Rally Handbook to learn about Rally Navigation.
